Why Do Some Property Owners Avoid Home Insulation?
By admin | February 24, 2010
I find it amazing that some homeowners will go out and spend money on all sorts of diy supplies to improve their homes, yet they often forget one very important thing. Saving money by carrying out improvements and repairs can of course be a very good idea. But, how much is being wasted in higher energy bills due to poor home insulation I wonder? Heat will escape through almost anything, particularly the roof and walls of a house. And, if there is heat loss it means that to keep the temperature at the same level more heat is required, thus higher energy costs. Not only that but it is more comfortable to be insulated properly, and, if less energy is being used that is good for our environment due to lower carbon emissions. My sister in law has now reached the age of seventy. Here in the UK this means that she automatically qualifies to have her property insulated for free. As she only moved in to her bungalow 12 months ago she knew that the walls were already properly insulated. But, the surveyor found that the roof space was inadequately insulated. Heat was rising and escaping through the roof. So, she was able to get the loft insulated for free, which in her case saved around £200. If she had needed the same doing with her walls that too would be free. But, for those who do not qualify to get it done for nothing, it is still worthwhile spending money on home insulation. In the long term savings will be made, often in just a few years. Everyone should consider insulation as a vital part of their home maintenance regime.
