Thanks to my birthday reminder service, I’m a good father

By admin | January 13, 2010

Ever since computers became powerful enough to fit in the palm of our hands without sacrificing performance, I have been telling everyone I know that the days of forgetfulness are over. Gone for good. No more excuses.

Why do I say this? I say this because we have our calendars and much of our life literally in the palm of our hand. Literally. If you need to remember your anniversary, all you have to do is pull out your iPhone or whatever you use and there it is. The problem is that not everybody has enough foresight to pull their phone out of their pocket to check the day’s events.

It’s not that we are lazy people. We just have a lot of things going on in our lives. We have our full time jobs, school, family time, and leisure time. It’s no wonder we can’t keep track of even the most basic things that we should be remembering.

It’s like a little experience I had just last week. I was on my way home from a long day at the office and I remembered that I had to buy some caviar for dinner that night. My wife has spend the day at cricket club and then picked up our son from rowing practice, so I had to get dinner.Well lo and behold, my birthday reminder service goes off on my phone just as I was approaching the store. If it had not gone off at that precise time, I would not have remembered that I also needed a birthday card for my daughter’s birthday that day. Thank goodness for that reminder.
