I Advise My Customers to Apply a Concrete Sealer

By admin | February 12, 2010

As a concrete contractor I try to give my customers the best advice that I can when it comes to protecting their new driveway. We build many homes in the area, both pre sold and spec homes, and they always come with a two car concrete driveway. As you probably know, concrete is not cheap. An average sized driveway can run anywhere between 6 and 12 grand on average, so protecting and taking care of the surface is very important to most of your customers. I always recommend that they have the concrete sealed after it has cured properly. This will help protect the concrete surface from moisture as a concrete sealer will create a barrier to lock it out. When cement is unprotected it will absorb water and moisture at a rate greater than most people realize. This causes the concrete to expand and then shrink when it dries out. Constant expanding is what causes cement to first crack and then start to become brittle and crumble eventually leading to in completely deteriorating. Though we do not provide concrete sealer services ourselves, we do recommend a contractor that can help them with protecting their concrete. Actually, I find it so important to apply a concrete sealer, that I will not warranty the driveway unless it is sealed within the first 18 months. Concrete that is left unprotected will not last near as long and I am not going to be held responsible. Most of my customers understand the importance of concrete sealer and know that I only have their best interests in mind.
