How to Get More Life Out of a Stain Like Penofin

By admin | January 29, 2010

I have noticed a lot of homeowners who have trouble keeping a wood stain on their deck. The explain no matter how much the deck stain was or how many years it said it would last on the can, they cannot get more than 9 months to a year out of it. I did some researching and the results I found may surprise you. There are many good deck stains on the market today. Take Penofin oil based wood stain for example. The average homeowner is going to sweep the dirt and debris of their deck or at most try to wash it clean with a power washer and then let it dry. They will then apply a wood sealer such as Penofin and the deck will look good, for awhile anyway. Now even though Penofin is a good quality deck stain trusted by many wood restoration contractors it may start to fade and wear prematurely. This is because the wood was not prepped correctly. Any stain including Penofin needs to be applied to a properly cleaned wood surface. It says this right on the can but yet people will apply it all the time over wood that has not been cleaned correctly. The right cleaners and cleaning methods need to be used to clean wood to prepare for a deck sealer like Penofin or any other type of sealer. This is the number one reason so many people can’t keep stain on their wooden decks. It may be best to call in a professional that can clean the deck properly so the stain will last.
