The Basics of Moving Supplies

By admin | March 2, 2010

No one likes to move, but sometimes it’s necessary. Workers are transferred, kids leave home, families decide on a new start; moving is often a fact of life. Organization is very important when moving, as is making sure that you have the correct moving supplies. Boxes come in many different shapes and sizes, and are essential to your move. There are other things that will also make your move a whole lot simpler.

When talking about moving supplies, the first things that come to most people’s minds are boxes. It’s obvious why they are needed, everything that is coming with you needs to be packed. Special boxes for a wardrobe are a great idea, they have a hanger bar across the top so that you can transfer your items from your closet to the box and then hang them up in your new closet without any wrinkles. You can also order special boxes to pack up your kitchen. The kitchen boxes are extra strong, no one wants to get to a new house and discover that all their dishes have been broken. Artwork lovers or those with lots of pictures will want to check out frame boxes, made to keep the frames safe. You can also purchase boxes that are made specifically for files and for any important papers that you don’t want to get lost.

Of course there’s a lot more to moving supplies than just boxes. One very important item that you’re going to want is bubble wrap, your delicate items will all be protected by a cushion of air. Stretch wrap is also a good idea. You can use it to cover your furniture, no one wants their coffee table or their dining room chairs to be scratched or damaged during a move. Moving pads or blankets can also help to protect your furniture. You also might want to consider purchasing mattress covers for the move.

There are two more moving supplies that you’ll need that don’t come to mind as quickly. The first one is packing tape. You’ll definitely need it for when you’re finished packing each box. The second is a thick magic marker. Once a box is filled mark what the contents are and what room it belongs in. You might want to consider a different color marker for each room, to make it easier when you arrive at your new home.
