Father of the Bride Wedding Speeches: What to Leave Out
By admin | May 8, 2010
So you just found out your daughter is getting married. While this may be an unsettling and painful time for you, try to remain as upbeat as possible. Even though your daughter will have a new husband, she will still want her father to be very much a part of her life.
Father of the bride wedding speeches are a great way to speak to your daughter, her husband and the rest of the guests while expressing your love and admiration of her. Before writing out that speech, it’s important to realize that there are some things that you would be better off not talking about on her wedding day.
Your Daughter’s Past Relationships
No matter how much you liked, or disliked, a guy that your daughter has previously dated, leave him out of her and her husband’s special day. This can create an awkward moment for everyone who hears you and your daughter will likely be mortified. Now is the time to look towards her future, not talk about the past. You want her and new husband to have an incredible life together, so talk about that instead.
Embarrassing Moments
Embarrassing moments can add some humor to father of the bride wedding speeches, but be careful about which moment you choose. The best ones to choose are from when she was a little girl. Everyone is always able to laugh about themselves as younger children because we all do silly things when we’re growing up.
Marriage Horror Stories
If you have experienced any horror stories involving marriage or you know somebody who has had a bad marriage experience, leave those stories out as well. Your daughter’s wedding day is supposed to be a happy time. She is now a wife and her and her husband are going to create their own marriage path. You can advise them that there are happy moments along with sad moments, but don’t paint the marriage picture an unhappy, miserable one. You want the best for her so concentrate on giving advice rather than telling stories that might make her or her husband feel scared or uneasy.
While these are just a few things not to mention during your speech, know that there is so much more you can talk about. Just remember to focus on the positive, talk about how proud you are of her daughter and it wouldn’t hurt to welcome her new husband into your family.
